Sources from the Bureau of Environmental Protection of Guangzhou Municipality said that in the first half of 2007, the environment in Guangzhou continued to improve.
The number of days with perfect ambient air quality reached 166, about 91.7% of the first half year and air quality measurements met Grade II National Air Quality Standard levels.
The year 2006 witnessed 334 days with fine ambient air quality, or about 91.5% of the whole year.
Officials from the Bureau of Environmental Protection of Guangzhou Municipality said that diversified measures would be taken to further improve air quality in Guangzhou.
First, great importance will be focussed on waste air treatment in specified enterprises that are known to cause air pollution so as to reduce the emission of SO2 with second and third-level industries, including so-called service industries, in urban areas.
Those enterprises that cause serious air pollution and/or are the subject of specific complaints from citizens will be moved to other locations to solve problems caused by air pollution in urban areas.
