In 2005 and 2006, container volume growth at Guangzhou Port reached 40%, followed by another quantitative jump in the first two quarters of 2007. According to Guangzhou Harbour Bureau, during the first six months of 2007, container volume reached 4,390,000 TEU with a growth of 43.3%, ranking first of major ports in China. Cargo Volume exceeded 166 million tons with a growth of 10% over last year.
With a newly-built Nansha Development Zone to emerge in the near future, there will be another 39 deep-sea berths located in Guangzhou Port. It is expected that the volume of containers at Guangzhou Port will be extended to 400 million tons and reach 14 million TEU.
Guangzhou Port connects to more than 80 countries and more than 350 international ports around the world and 100 ports inside China. It consists of four port districts including the Downtown Port District, Huangpu Port District, Xinsha Port District and Nansha Port District.
